I’m just rediscovering 808s.
Paper Planes by The Da Vincis
originally by M.I.A.Ok, I already know what you’re thinking… another Paper Planes cover? I know… I know. (Hey, at least it isn’t MGMT or Kings of Leon, right?) But this one is really, really great. These three 17 year old kids from Jackson, Mississippi really get music. It’s catchy, it’s pretty funny, and I’m pretty sure you’ll dig it even if you hate the original. By the way, they’re releasing their debut LP, See You Tonight on Tuesday.

Sindri Már Sigfússon, otherwise known as Sin Fang (formerly Sin Fang Bous), is the front man for the Icelandic band Seabear.
Morr Music touts him as “Iceland’s new king of lo-fi layered lushness,” which is odd: How does this pass, in our haze-besotted indie climate, as lo-fi? Summer Echoes is definitely layered and lush, with electronic filigree laid atop orchestrated psychedelia laid atop acoustic indie-folk. But the sound separation is generally pristine, contrasting timbres are clearly proportioned, and stereo space is carefully managed. It was recorded with a band that included members of Múm and Seabear, in Sin Fang’s own studio and in Sigur Rós’ Sundlaugin.
“Slow Lights,” track 12 from the album, is my favorite.
“Go Outside” by Cults
I really like the style of this video. At first, I thought it was going to be old news footage with the track behind it, but everything went better than expected.
Good stuff, I’m telling you.
